GENERAL REPORT:
Near
St.
Omer
I
attacked
an
Me.
109
at
a
range
of
250
yds.
giving
one
short
burst
with
my
cannon,
but
I
did
not
observe
the
result
because
I
heard
S/L
Pisarek
ordering
us
to
form
a
defensive
circle.
We
were
then
attacked
by
ever-increasing
numbers
of
E/A
and
all
the
time
were
circling
and
turning
either
to
starboard
or
to
port
according
to
the
direction
from
which
attack
was
expected.
The
engagement
lasted
about
15
minutes,
during
which
we
gradually
approached
Garvelines.
here
we
encountered
a
large
single
formation
of
E/A.
numbering
about
30:
Our
S/L
gave
the
order
to
circle
to
starboard,
and
mey
section
was
the
last
to
complete
the
circle.
I
then
saw
a
Me.
109
on
my
left
about
150/200
yds.
away.
I
gave
him
two
short
bursts
with
my
cannon.
I
had
slowed
down
to
deliver
my
attack,
and
lost
height.
As
I
regained
the
squadron
I
saw
the
German
pilot
bailing
out.
Another
pilot
confirms
that
this
was
Retinger's
E/A.
